Privacy Policy

Effective May 2, 2026

Automarkly is a homework grading service for families. We take your privacy seriously — especially because some of the information you share with us is about your children. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and who can see it. We've written it in plain language on purpose.

1. What we collect

  • Account information. Your name and email address when you sign up.
  • Student profiles. The information you enter for each student: name, grade level, and optionally a parent or guardian email address used as the suggested recipient when you choose to email a graded report.
  • Homework submissions. Photos or scanned images of homework uploaded by a workspace member or by a student via a magic-link upload page.
  • Grading results. The AI-generated feedback for each submission: per-question verdicts, scores, explanations, and detected subject matter.
  • Usage data. Submission timestamps, credit usage, and basic service logs needed to operate and debug the service.

We do not collect payment card numbers directly. If you subscribe to a paid plan, payments are processed by Stripe — see section 4.

2. How we use it

  • Grade homework and deliver reports to your family.
  • Send email notifications (submission receipts, graded reports).
  • Track your usage quota and manage your subscription.
  • Investigate bugs, handle support requests, and operate the service.

We do not use your homework content to train AI models. Submissions are processed by a third-party AI grading service under terms that prohibit using API inputs for model training. See section 4 below for the specific subprocessor we use.

3. Children's data

Automarkly is designed for parents and guardians, not children. Only adults create accounts. When you add a student profile and upload their homework, you are acting on your child's behalf and consenting to that data being processed as described in this policy.

We do not knowingly solicit or collect personal information directly from children under 13. The service's account creation, billing, and data controls are all in the hands of the parent or guardian. If you believe we have inadvertently received data directly from a child under 13 without your knowledge, contact us at hello@automarkly.app and we will delete it promptly.

Students may interact with the service indirectly — for example, using a parent-shared magic-link upload page — but they do not create accounts, and the parent controls all settings and data.

4. Who can see your data

Google (AI grading)

Homework images are sent to Google's Gemini Vision API for grading. Google processes them to return grading results and does not retain them for model training under their API terms.

AWS (infrastructure)

We run on Amazon Web Services (US East region). Homework images are encrypted at rest in S3. We also use AWS Rekognition to automatically screen uploaded images for inappropriate content before grading.

Stripe (payments)

Subscription payments are handled by Stripe. Stripe receives your billing information directly; we store only a customer reference ID. Stripe's privacy policy governs how they handle payment data.

The Automarkly team

As the operators of this service, we have administrative access to user accounts and submission data. We use this access only for legitimate business purposes: diagnosing bugs, responding to support requests, and operating the service. We do not browse customer submissions out of curiosity, and admin actions on your account are logged.

We do not sell your data to third parties, share it with advertisers, or disclose it to anyone outside the categories above.

5. How long we keep data

Homework images are automatically deleted based on your plan:

  • Free plan: photos auto-delete 30 days after submission.
  • Family and Tutor plans: photos are kept while your subscription is active and are not auto-deleted.
  • You can delete the photos for any submission at any time from its report page. Scores, explanations, and progress data are preserved separately and stay for as long as your account is active.
  • If your subscription is cancelled and not renewed, we may eventually expire stored photos older than 2 years; we’ll never silently delete photos for an active paying customer.

Grading results (text, scores, feedback) are retained as long as your account is active. Your account information is kept until you delete your account. If you close your account we will delete your data within 30 days, except where we're required to retain it for legal or financial purposes.

6. Security

All data in transit is encrypted over HTTPS. Homework images and account data are encrypted at rest. Authentication is handled by AWS Cognito — we do not store passwords.

No system is perfectly secure. If you discover a vulnerability, please disclose it responsibly to hello@automarkly.app.

7. Your rights

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from your settings page. For anything you can't do in the app — exporting your data, correcting something, or requesting deletion of specific records — email hello@automarkly.app and we'll handle it within 30 days.

8. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes — new third parties, new data uses, or changes that affect children's data — we'll notify you by email before they take effect. Minor changes will be updated in place with a revised effective date.
