Automarkly grades your student’s homework. To do that we need to store the photos you submit and the names of the students they belong to. This page explains what we collect, why, and your choices.

What we collect

  • Account information. Your name, email, and password (Cognito stores password hashes — we never see the password itself).
  • Family + student information. Family name, each student’s name and grade level. Optionally a student email if they email homework themselves.
  • Submitted photos. The photos of homework you upload or email in.
  • Grading results. The per-question results we generate from each photo, kept alongside the original submission.
  • Usage signals. Number of submissions per day, plan tier, and aggregated cost data — used for billing and capacity planning.

How we use it

  • To grade homework and produce reports for you.
  • To enforce your plan’s usage limits.
  • To send the report emails you’ve opted in to.
  • To investigate and fix bugs.

What we do NOT do

  • We do not sell or share your data with third parties for advertising.
  • We do not use your homework photos or grading results to train AI models.
  • We do not show ads.

Third parties we share with (only what's strictly needed)

  • Google Gemini. Each homework photo is sent to Google’s Gemini Vision API for grading. Google’s policy applies to that processing — they state they don’t use API content to train their models.
  • AWS. All storage and compute runs on Amazon Web Services. Photos sit in encrypted S3 buckets; account data sits in DynamoDB.
  • Stripe (when paid plans launch). Payment information is handled by Stripe; we never see your full card number.

How long we keep things

  • Photos. Retained per your plan: 14 days (Free), 90 days (Family), or 365 days (Premium). After that, photos are automatically deleted.
  • Grading reports. Kept indefinitely so you have access to historical scores. The original photos may already be gone, but the per-question results remain.
  • Account data. Kept while your account is active. Deleting your account removes everything within 30 days.

Children's data

Automarkly is intended for use by parents and guardians on behalf of their students. The students themselves are not our direct users. We don’t collect personal information about students beyond what the parent provides (name, grade, optional email) and the contents of the homework photos themselves.

If you submit a student email, we use it solely for routing inbound homework emails to the right student record.

Your rights

  • Access & export. Email us and we’ll send you a ZIP of every submission and report on your account.
  • Correction. Update student names, grades, or family info from the settings page at any time.
  • Deletion. Delete your account from the settings page, or email us and we’ll do it. All your data is removed within 30 days.

Security

Photos are stored in private S3 buckets with server-side encryption. Account credentials are managed by AWS Cognito. All API traffic uses HTTPS. We follow least-privilege IAM policies between services.

That said: no system is perfectly secure. If you discover a vulnerability, please email hello@automarkly.app.

Changes to this policy

If we materially change how we handle your data, we’ll email you before the change takes effect.
